Longwood's trek to Moylagh on Wednesday evening may not have yielded the desired victory but it was certainly a much improved performance from the boys.
Despite conceding a goal in the opening minute, Longwood re-grouped and played some good football, registering some excellent scores in what was an entertaining game.
After the shaky start, Longwood's defence settled into the game with strong displays from Niall Mulvey, Adam O'Brien and the evergreen Jacob Baldwin.
The two Seans, Coloe and Crum, performed well at midfield against a strong Moylagh pairing and secured plenty of possession, enabling Thomas Coloe and Ryan Moore to do damage further up the field. Tadhg Connolly gave a glimpse of his undoubted potential with a beautiful point off his left foot after a typically elusive run.
As is so often the case, Ryan Moore was in sparkling scoring form, ably assisted by Sean Coloe whose raids from midfield caused plenty of problems for the home defence and resulted in three superb points from play.
Harry Hogan, fresh from his county duties, was denied a goal in the second half when is initial shot was parried by the keeper and his follow-up effort cannoned off the post.
A couple of late points saw Moylagh scrape over the line, and despite Longwood’s best efforts they couldn’t quite find an equalising score.
The next round of Corn Na Boinne sees Longwood host Trim next Wednesday evening.
