4,000 km in little over a month - it may have seemed like a wildly ambitious target but Longwood's walkers, joggers and runners proved to be more than up for the challenge.

So much so, that by the time March 3rd rolled around, not only had we reached the target figure, we had well and truly obliterated it!

In the end Longwood's committed group covered a monumental 18,444 km. A truly astounding effort.

To put it in perspective, the distance from Dublin to Sydney is 17,204 km (thank you Google)

With 175 clubs competing in the Every Step Counts Challenge, Longwood finished a highly creditable 38th on the final leaderboard.

Our Juvenile Committee led from the front with Hugh Hannon, Tracy Brady, Joyce Dixon and Alan Holton amassing over 2,500 km between them. Well done guys!

So well done to everyone who took part and came out to support our club.

While we may not have featured among the prizes (congrats to our neighbours in Johnstownbridge), I think it's fair to say that we are all winners!
