All GAA fans will rejoice this weekend as the National Leagues in both Football and Hurling swing into action.
Last year represented real progress for Meath football as Andy McEntee's charges secured promotion to Division 1, reached the Leinster Final and qualified for the Super 8's. They will look to maintain this upward curve in 2020; admittedly the challenges will be stiffer but the best way to improve is by playing stronger teams on a regular basis.
The first round of the league sees Meath travel to Omagh on Sunday next for a joust with Tyrone - welcome to Division One!
Longwood's Eoin Lynch and Harry Hogan featured strongly during the O'Byrne Cup and we wish our boys and the rest of the Meath panel well on Sunday.
Meath's senior hurlers enjoyed a fantastic year in 2019, securing their second Christy Ring Cup in recent seasons. They will open their 2020 league campaign with a trip to Birr on Sunday to face neighbours Offaly. While the faithful county have fallen from the top table in recent seasons, they are sure to target the league as the first step on their journey back to where they feel they belong. They will represent a stern test for our boys.
Nick Weir, who coached Longwood to a SHC Final in 2013, has taken over as manager of the Meath hurlers and we wish him well in his new role.
Longwood will be well represented with Damien & Anthony Healy, Mickey Burke and Ross Kerrigan all involved with the county hurling panel. Best of luck lads!
