Longwood 0-9 Killyon 0-4
Longwood hosted neighbours Killyon in an U12 challenge on a beautiful Friday evening.
Longwood's young stars have performed with tremendous credit throughout the season. Mentors Enda Dixon, Jim Dorran and Mark Upton have devoted countless hours on the training field and the fruits of their labour is there for all to see. Despite not winning any silverware, though coming close in both League competitions, the players have improved enormously over the past year and we look forward to seeing them represent Longwood for years to come.
The team signed off in style with a hard-earned and fully deserved victory. Longwood can look to the future with optimism; the majority of this team are eligible for U12 hurling again next year and if they continue to work on their skills and listen to their mentors they will surely gain their just rewards.
Team "veterans" Seán Hanlon Upton, Jake Lynch, Conor Dixon and Sarah Brogan were playing their final U12 match for Longwood. All of these players have donned the white jersey with pride over the past number of seasons and have been excellent role models for the younger members of the panel.
Seán, Jake and Conor will move on and become valuable members of the U13 panel.
Sarah will move on to play camogie with Na Fianna and we wish her every success. All in attendance were treated to her finest performance of the season; utterly dominant around the middle of the field, she finished the game with 4 points, all from open play.
Well done to the U12 panel - they have given us fantastic entertainment in 2019.
To the players and mentors we say Go Raibh Míle Maith Agaibh.
