U14 Football League Semi-Final: Moynalty 4-7 Longwood 4-6
Longwood's U14 footballers made the long journey to Moynalty for the Spring League semi-final, ultimately losing out by the narrowest of margins after a titanic battle. The teams had met earlier in the group stages of the League; on that occasion Longwood had prevailed by two points so all indications were that there was little between the teams.
And so it proved. Longwood seemed a little edgy to start with but eventually settled into the contest, playing some excellent football and leading for the majority of the game. Some of their scores were a joy to behold, a mixture of kick and hand passing opening up the Moynalty defence on numerous occasions.
All of the players performed with tremendous credit and it was tough on them to lose out to a late, late point. But these boys are made of the right stuff and there is no doubt they will learn from the experience and come back stronger in the future. There is still much to play for this season and this team's appetite for work and willingness to learn will surely see them gain their just rewards in the near future.
