U15 Hurling League Shield Final: Killyon/Longwood 4-20 Kildalkey 0-8
Our U15 hurlers finished the season in style with a comprehensive victory over perennial rivals Kildalkey at a cold and wet Dunganny on Sunday morning. As captain Sam King referred to in his excellent acceptance speech, the lads would have preferred to have been involved in the Cup Final, nevertheless victory in the Shield is some tangible reward for this fine group of young hurlers.
As the scoreline indicates, Killyon/Longwood were very much the stronger team on the day. They led from early on and never looked like giving up this advantage. Justin Coyne gave a typical powerhouse display from midfield, taking the fight to Kildalkey throughout the contest and finishing with an incredible personal tally of 1-12.
In truth the entire team performed well, most of them getting the better of their direct opponent on the day.
Congratulations to the players and the management team for producing such a fantastic performance. Many of the team will return to Dunganny next Saturday for the U15 Football League Division 3 Final. Here's hoping they can come out with a similar result.
