U15 Football League Division 3 Semi-Final: Gaeil Colmcille 2-5 Longwood/Clonard 5-9
Longwood/Clonard's U15 footballers made light of the fact that they had to travel to Grangegodden for this morning's League semi-final as they produced their best performance of the current campaign, ultimately running out comfortable winners against a Kells team that had beaten them in the earlier group stages of the competition.
While it would be easy to focus on the goal-scoring exploits of ace marksman Tadhg Connolly, in truth this was a strong team performance with most of the Longwood/Clonard players winning their personal battles with their direct opponents. They asserted their superiority from the throw in and were the dominant team for the majority of the hour. Gaeil Colmcille, to their credit, never gave in and tried valiantly to carry the fight to our boys but the result was never in doubt.
The boys move on to a League Final where they will square up to a strong St Peter's Dunboyne outfit.
Well done to all the players and the management team who had them so well prepared for this assignment.
We wish them every success in the upcoming final. Please keep an eye on www.longwoodgaa.com for fixture details.
