Longwood's U14 Footballers took to the field in Boardsmill as Féile Peile Na nÓg got underway.
First up for Longwood was a contest against Beragh Red Knights from Tyrone. Despite giving their all, the boys from Longwood had no answer to the physical power and skill of the boys from Ulster. Malachy Fisher pulled off a world class save early in the opening half but the Red Knights took charge soon after and posted a comprehensive victory on a scoreline of 5-8 to 0-4.
The second game saw Longwood take on neighbours Clonard. From early on when Ciaran Sheridan scored a fantastic goal, Longwood assumed control and never looked like being caught. Some excellent points from Sheridan, Sam Dixon and Luke Daly ensured the scoreboard kept ticking over in favour of the boys from the Wood. Final score Longwood 4-7 Clonard 1-2
Saturday morning sees Longwood host our visitors from Brittany in what promises to be the highlight of the weekend. Throw in is at 10.00 and players should meet in the dressing rooms at 9.00.
