AFL Division 4 – Round 1: Longwood 2-8 Bective 3-14
Longwood’s footballers opened their competitive season with defeat to a strong Bective outfit on Sunday morning.
The home pitch was well presented despite the recent biblical falls of rain and the teams served up an entertaining game for the time of year.
Under the management of Eoghan Kevlihan and Joe Corroon, the home team produced a couple of short, sharp bursts of decent football in each half. While they created a significant number of chances, their conversion rate in front of goal was not at the desired level. This is something to be worked on in the coming weeks.
Their opponents were much more clinical and took full advantage when presented with scoring opportunities.
One particular highlight was the debut of William Phillips – a talented dual player who made a significant contribution, showing well for the ball and kicking an excellent point from play. We look forward to seeing William shine for Longwood over the coming season and beyond.
Longwood: Kevin Maguire, Cian O’Sullivan, David Coloe, Mark Kennedy, Harry Leigh, Sean Carpenter (Capt.), Coyle O’Brien, Ciaran Sheridan, Dominic Finnegan, Conor M Dixon, Anto Healy, Adrian Maguire, Ryan Moore (0-3), Sean Sheridan (0-3), William Phillips (0-1). Subs: Gavin Griffith (0-1) for Dixon, Ben McLoughlin (1-0) for Healy, Thomas Dorran for Phillips, Liam Foran for Adrian Maguire
Next weekend sees the boys travel to Drumbaragh for the second round of the football league.
