Longwood’s hurlers search for a first league win of the season continues after a disappointing loss to a determined St Fechin’s outfit on Saturday afternoon.
Playing at home proved to be no real advantage for Longwood who seemed flat for much of the contest. First touch is crucial in a fast-moving game like hurling and Longwood’s was not at the required level on the day.
Trailing by five points at half-time, Longwood did reduce the deficit to three points in the third quarter. A couple of poor wides seemed to take the wind out of their sails and St Fechin’s, with the benefit of a strong bench, finished the stronger of the two teams to secure a deserved victory.
Longwood: Mark Kennedy, Thomas Dorran, Adam Leacy, Luke Brady, Bob Maguire, Brian Stagg, Paul Gill, Anthony Healy (0-8), Gavin Griffith, Ben McLoughlin, Ryan Moore (0-2), Conor M Dixon (0-1), Conor Dixon (0-1), Sam King, David Coloe. Subs: Enda Dixon for David Coloe
Next up for the hurlers, a trip to Kiltale on Friday 16th May.
Before that, we have three football games in the coming week with the reserve team hosting Skryne (Tuesday) and Dunsany (Friday) before our first team travel to Slane at the weekend.
