Against the backdrop of Covid-19, GAA clubs around the country have struggled to raise the necessary funds to keep the show on the road.

Longwood GAA and LGFA are not immune from these challenges and, as a result, have decided to organise a major fundraising initiative in the form of a Sponsored Walk, which will take place on Saturday June 19th.

The funds raised will go towards the cost of (i) our new Ball Wall which will soon be constructed, (ii) the development of our second pitch and (iii) the upkeep of our walking track. These enhancements will benefit all current club members, adult and juvenile, and the wider community who avail of our facilities, particularly the walking track, throughout the year. They will also benefit future generations of Longwood GAA and LGFA players. Now that is an inspirational and worthwhile cause!

A number of people have kindly volunteered to be Team Leaders for the Walk. Each team leader is responsible for raising a minimum of €200. Team Leaders will have 12 Walkers on their team and each of these walkers must generate an additional €50 (hopefully more!).

Each team will walk for 1 hour on the big day.

We are asking all families, community members, former players/members now living overseas, basically everybody to support this initiative. If you are not already sponsoring a Team Leader or Walker, you can pledge a donation to support The Walk via our club website www.longwoodgaa.com

A % of the funds raised will go to St Nicholas’ Primary School to purchase a new bicycle rack.
